Emden. Emden-based Northern HeliCopter GmbH (NHC for short) has secured its first order for service in the Baltic Sea. In 2018, NHC will have a rescue helicopter with pilots and medical crew based in Güttin on the island of Rügen on 24/7 call throughout the year. The client is 50Hertz Transmission (50HzT) from Berlin, who had been looking for an interim solution until completion of its EU tender.
Dramatical moments in the mud flat: Twice the team had to rescue vacationers from difficult situations.
Due to a knee injury, one person wasn’t able to walk through the mud by herself and needed help to get back to the safe beach. The rescue team ordered a stretcher and had to pull the person to the beach 400 meters away.
Just as this mission was over, another call came in: A middle-aged woman was stuck in the mud flat already for an hour, her husband and daughter were with her, but not able to help. This time, the beach was more than 500 meters away and the rescue team couldn’t reach her because of the mud and the beginning flood. The situation became more and more dangerous for everyone and the time was running out…

Again, the company has won an important contract: The supply of medical services for the new offshore wind farm Merkur in the German Bight during installation and commissioning phase.

This was a true premiere: For the very first time, members of the NHC offshore rescue helicopter's medical crew did their annual algorithm training under difficult conditions in the "Christoph Life" simulator. The "Christoph Life" simulator is a mobile cell of the type "BK117" helicopter, acquired for such purposes by the Johanniter (JUH) training institute in Hannover together with the Trauma Foundation of Hannover Medical School (MHH).
