Helicopter medical crew practises for emergencies

Emden/Elsfleth/Hanover.  This was a true premiere: For the very first time, members of the NHC offshore rescue helicopter's medical crew did their annual algorithm training under difficult conditions in the "Christoph Life" simulator. The "Christoph Life" simulator is a mobile cell of the type "BK117" helicopter, acquired for such purposes by the Johanniter (JUH) training institute in Hannover together with the Trauma Foundation of Hannover Medical School (MHH).

First training with the new SOV "WINDEA La Cour"

St. Peter-Ording. Early August saw an initial training session in the North Sea with Bernhard Schulte Offshore GmbH's new service operation vessel (SOV) “WINDEA La Cour", which had just been put into service, and the "Northern Rescue 01" offshore rescue helicopter. The training was focused on the communication between the bridge of the SOV and the offshore rescue helicopter, winch procedures from the quarterdeck and what the deckhands have to do when a helicopter lands on the helideck of "WINDEA La Cour".

Injured worker rescued from gondola

Emden/St. Peter-Ording. An unannounced alarm exercise was recently held at the Amrumbank West offshore wind farm. The deployed personnel, the crew of Northern HeliCopter GmbH’s offshore rescue helicopter and the Offshore VENTUSmedic medical control centre operated by the Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe accident assistance organization were given no advance information, and therefore initially had to assume that this was a real case of emergency.

In action for refugees in distress at sea

Lesbos / Emden  Irrespective of the European Union's political decisions and regardless of the huge risks involved in crossing the Mediterranean stretch from Turkey to the Greek island of Lesbos, people are fleeing in the face of war  in their devastated homelands and risking their lives in the process. "The intensified border controls are forcing the refugees to take their chances under the cover of darkness. They are in many cases literally left to their own devices, adrift at sea in overcrowded hardshell or inflatable dinghies, and that is a very dangerous situation", reports Carlos Glatz. The young paramedic used his time off to spend two weeks working as volunteer for the non-profit NGO "Sea-Watch" in the port on the east coast of Lesbos. His motivation: "No-one should have to die at sea."

St. Peter-Ording/Emden FDP politician Christopher Vogt made use of his stay in the North Frisia region to pay a fact-finding visit to Northern HeliCopter GmbH's offshore air rescue base in  St. Peter-Ording. Mr. Vogt, deputy leader of the Free Democratic Party parliamentary group and chairman of the Economic Affairs Committee in the Schleswig-Holstein state parliament, was particularly interested in the holistic rescue concept WINDEAcare.
